i came across a blog the other day, whose premise/focus i really love. it’s all about women encouraging other women in all of our messy, chaotic, imperfect, realness. it’s about community-building, and connecting. and it sounds absolutely wonderful with just one caveat:
every single woman centered and celebrated on this site so far, is white.
better (and way more educated) writers than i have expounded on the problem of non-intersectional feminism, so i’m not going to even attempt to do that here. but i am lamenting a dearth of spaces either online or in real life that are at once woman-centered and inclusive and diverse.
i have a rather diverse, albeit small, social circle, and i guess i just have a large desire to see it reflected on a larger scale. right now, in this painfully divided country, the idealist in me just wants to see that healed. and i guess i have a lot of unrealistic expectations that i’ll see more people doing their part to do just that. the women who started the aforementioned blog have a rather large built-in platform because of who they are and what they do. and i really hope that, over time, they use the space to include more women than just the ones that look just like them.
